How to Measure Your Front Door Opening Correctly
If ordering the frame and door from us:
- We make our frame to the exact external dimensions you give us, ensure to allow a small amount of clearance so the frame can easily be slid into place and remaining gaps covered with angle trims or silicon.
- Normally 10mm off the opening width and 5mm off the opening height is sufficient, however the opening should be checked for plumb on site to verify that these clearances are sufficient.
- Clearances can be packed out on site with plastic H-Packers or similar.
If ordering the door only to suit an existing frame:
- If using our hinges they require a 5mm clearance, to calculate width – daylight opening minus 10mm (5mm hinge side, 5mm lock side), to calculate height – daylight opening minus 5mm clearance on the top and 7mm on the bottom depending on the seal/sill set up.
- If hinges are already attached to the frame, use the hinge packers that come with the door and allow the correct clearances required for those hinges.
Screws to be used are 8G x 25mm Stainless Steel self-tapping screws suitable for aluminium.
