How do black powder coats perform on aluminium front doors?
Dark colours and shades, especially black, are all the latest in both joinery and front doors. However, not all black powder coat options on the market are recommended on front doors, which typically have large flat surface areas.
The makeup and application of powder coating differ significantly from traditional paint finishes, including a 2-pot gloss lacquer.
In the past, we’ve encountered issues with the powder coat colour “Satin Black,” as it tends to show marks and scratches easily, especially on large flat surfaces like front doors. This has been evident in our own factory building on a brand-new door, and customers notice it during the lifespan of the doors.
Parkwood strongly suggests opting for either Protexture or Textura black if a textured finish is acceptable, as both of these powders offer much better warranty and durability specifications. Alternatively, for a non-textured finish, the Interpon Matt Black GN291A is recommended. The Interpon Matt Black powder has more of a satin finish than the Dulux equivalent Matt Black.
All Matt Black powder coat options provided by Parkwood have proven to be very successful and have consistently ranked among the top 10 powder coat colours for many years.
