FAQs for Building Installers and Carpenters

Parkwood doors have unique benefits and advantages that you won’t find in other doors.  Here are the common questions that we find Building Installers and Carpenters asking us about Parkwood front doors.  We’ve tried to cover all key areas where Building Installers and Carpenters want to know if there are differences or things that may affect them in their role.

Can they be fitted in the Timber Frames?

Yes, both composite Duramax and aluminium front doors can be fitted into new timber frames.
However, we recommend aluminium front doors are fitted into aluminium door frames, either by your window fabricator who (if they are a Parkwood Dealer) or fitted into Parkwood’s specialist 160mm powder coated aluminium entry frame.

Do you have installation instructions?

Yes, we have fitting and installation instructions. We can supply these direct or you can download from the website.
Keep in mind that the Duramax composite doors can be buzzed, trimmed or drilled just like a timber door.

Can they be trimmed on Site?

Aluminium doors cannot be trimmed on site! So it is very important to get all the details right the first time. We can pre-drill for locks so there is minimal site work.

Do your doors get easily damaged on site?

Whilst powder coat finishes are considered more durable than standard paint finishes, we supply all doors in a clear plastic wrap. However, for complete on-site protection we offer a ‘On-site Protective Wrap’, code PROTEC, where the door is custom-wrapped with additional 4mm coreflute on both sides, cut in from the edge and the lock. This means the door can be completely hung and fitted with the lock without taking this protection wrap off. The wrap stays on until the house is ready to hand over to the client. Simply request PROTEC when ordering the front door.

What’s your options for construction keys/keyed-alike?

We can machine for your specific hardware, or any of our keyed lockset options come with a standard euro key/snib barrel, that can be easily swapped out for your own barrel with the correct key.
Alternatively, you can purchase any of our locksets with a specific J-code to match your key code for the rest of the house.

Are they easy to install?

Aluminium front doors are pre-powder coated, pre-drilled for locks and do not need easing or routing for hinges, so they’re easier and faster to install than a standard timber door.
An aluminium frame comes kitset and pre-drilled, so is only about 4-10 screws to assemble and fit.
